YOU CAN'T CRY
Actors, remember, emotional responses are involuntary reactions created by what you made something mean about you in the past. They get triggered in the present.
You can not cry*. You can only think sad thoughts triggered in the present, so that crying happens to you.
Do your homework, then stop talking, and let your character's images pop up in the transitions. Allow time/space for thinking thoughts in reacting to those images. --Only then can they/you feel.
(*laugh, feel angry, embarrassed, scared, confident, etc...)
